Bulareyaung Dance Company

2015

20 mins

In 2015, during the first year of Bulareyaung Dance Company’s establishment, the dance troupe was invited to attend Planet IndigenUS in Toronto to perform the dance duet Rattan at the Harbourfront Centre. Two people, hand in hand, each independent life form. But how will they get along if they cannot let go of each other’s hand? What awaits if they let go? No matter how deep you dig, rattan remains intertwined and mingled.

Bulareyaung Dance Company

The Bulareyaung Dance Company was founded in 2015 in Taitung by Bulareyaung Pagarlava, an aboriginal choreographer from Taiwan. Creation of dance pieces and dancers’ training are accomplished by working in the mountains, singing old chants by the waterside and going on regular field trips. Through delving into their indigenous heritage and culture, the dancers develop unique body movements and vocabulary. With works Stay That Way and Luna winning Taishin Arts Award respectively in 2017 and 2018, the Company becomes the first performing troupe to be awarded in two consecutive years.
