LIU Kuan-Hsiang
2022
60 mins | Dance performance
The dancer transforms into a medium of Shiva, and enters the space of the Indian epic. Sometimes shattering the fourth wall, he connects with the audience with his identity in real life. Sometimes he calls upon Shiva’s lovers, Parvati and Sati, to show their romantic entanglement on stage. Sometimes they immerse in each other’s affection and play; sometimes they sing festive celebrations; and sometimes they war and roar. In the blink of an eye, the story told on stage is the self who has already dealt with a life of yesterday; but in the next blink of an eye, the story becomes Shiva looking at the agonizing Sati in self-immolation. This constitutes the foundation of SH69VA, which all comes back to one question: “WHAT IS STORY?”

It was also selected into the Aerowaves Spring Forward in 2017, and invited to be performed in Denmark, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
